The father of a four-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and murdered in Nasrapur in Maharashtra’s Pune district, has demanded the strictest punishment for the accused. In an emotional appeal, he urged that the accused be given the death penalty and requested political leaders to refrain from visiting his home to offer condolences until justice is delivered. His message was shared through a video he recorded and released on Sunday, May 3, 2026.
In the video, the grieving father said that his family is currently in Dehu to perform the final rites and immerse his daughter’s ashes. He mentioned that relatives had informed him about several politicians visiting his house to express sympathy. While acknowledging their intentions, he made a heartfelt request that no one, including political leaders, should visit until the case reaches its conclusion and the accused is punished accordingly.
He said that his family would be open to meeting anyone only after justice is served. Until then, they wish to be left alone to cope with their loss. His words reflected both the deep pain of losing a child and a strong determination to see the legal process through to its end.
Meanwhile, protests erupted in parts of Pune following the incident, with hundreds of people gathering and expressing their anger. Demonstrations were reported on the busy Mumbai–Bengaluru highway, which also led to significant traffic disruptions. Citizens demanded swift action and accountability from authorities, calling for stricter measures to ensure safety.
Responding to the incident, Devendra Fadnavis assured that the government would pursue the case seriously. He stated that he had personally spoken to the victim’s father and promised that efforts would be made to secure capital punishment for the accused. He also said that the case would be fast-tracked to ensure a quick resolution.
The tragic case has also triggered a political reaction, with opposition leaders criticising the state government’s handling of law and order. Sanjay Raut strongly condemned the incident and questioned the government’s priorities. He alleged that such crimes indicate a failure in maintaining safety and security in the state.
Raut further criticised the administration, claiming that instead of focusing on governance, it is preoccupied with other activities. He raised concerns about policing and questioned how such a heinous crime could take place. His remarks added to the ongoing political debate surrounding the issue.
He went on to accuse the government of failing its basic responsibilities, saying that the system meant to protect citizens is not functioning effectively. According to him, incidents like these highlight deeper problems in law enforcement and governance.
In response, the Chief Minister dismissed the criticism, calling it baseless. He countered that those making such allegations were themselves involved in controversies and had no grounds to question the government’s actions.
As the investigation continues, the case has sparked widespread outrage across the region. Citizens, activists, and leaders alike are closely watching developments, with growing calls for justice and stronger action to prevent such incidents in the future.
